Nigel Farage fires warning shot to Keir Starmer over ‘two-tier’ Britain: ‘This is going to bite’

The former Brexit Party leader and prominent commentator warned the Labour leader that his party must return to its traditional voters or face political oblivion.

Brexit-backing voters in the so-called “red wall” seats won by the Tories in the 2019 election will not forgive Labour if it fails to change direction, Mr Farage said.

Nigel Farage has warned Labour that it risks creating a "two-tier" Britain if it does not change direction and start listening to the concerns of working-class voters.

The former Brexit Party leader said that the party's traditional voters in the so-called "red wall" seats won by the Tories in the 2019 election would not forgive Labour if it failed to change direction.

His warning comes as Labour leader Keir Starmer faces pressure from within his own party to adopt more left-wing policies.

But Mr Farage argued that such a move would only alienate further the voters that Labour needs to win back.

"If Labour continues down this path, they will create a two-tier Britain," he said.

"The metropolitan elite will continue to live in their bubble, while the rest of the country is left behind."

"This is a warning shot to Keir Starmer. He needs to change direction or he will face political oblivion."

Mr Farage's comments come as Labour is struggling to regain its footing after its heavy defeat in the 2019 general election.

The party lost a number of seats in its traditional heartlands in the north of England and the Midlands, as voters turned to the Conservatives under Boris Johnson.

Mr Starmer has since been trying to rebuild Labour's support base, but he has faced criticism from some within the party for not being left-wing enough.

However, Mr Farage warned that Labour could not afford to alienate the voters who had abandoned the party in recent years.

"These are the people who Labour needs to win back," he said.

"If they fail to do so, they will be condemned to a long period of opposition."
